Dammit Game of the Week: Bloons Tower Defense 3
Everyone tuning in for an exciting flash game review from reluctant_gamer will be incredibly disappointed this week. Due to upcoming finals she has shifted this weeks responsibility to the previously gameless gamer. Lucky for you, I have found a great game to present this week, having already wasted hours on it myself.
Many of you are probably familiar with the Bloons legacy. You are a monkey, and you throw darts at balloons, seeing if you can pop as many as is needed with the darts you are provided. It’s an awesome collection of games that reluctant_gamer had as game of the week about a month ago. Bloons Tower Defense 3 takes things in the legacy one step further. Rather than the balloons being stationary, they now move through designated paths, and you must set up various monkey based dart towers to destroy them.
There are three levels that you can play at: easy, medium, or hard. I have only played easy and medium. If you play your cards, or rather your monkeys right, then you may be able to get up to level 33 like I did. I won’t tell you what is there stopping me from progressing further, because it is a frustration that you should find out for yourself.
There are various monkey based dart towers, as I mentioned before. There is the typical monkey that throws one dart at a time. There is the multi dart tower that shoots darts out in all directions, much like some of the power-ups in the original bloons. Then there are bomb launching towers, cannonball launching towers, freezing balloon towers, and boomerang towers, just to name most of them. They all do just about what their name would allude to.
While you may think that there are only different colored balloons with no difference in strength, BTD3 presents the challenge of different colors moving at different speeds or with different strengths. Some can be destroyed with bombs, or missiles, while other cannot. Others can be frozen, while others will not be affected. There are even a few tat take an enormous number of hits before they are destroyed.
I would definitely suggest this game for when your boss is blabbering from the other side of your desk. You can easily click and place the various towers or numerous other weapons available and then let the game run itself. Just be careful, because if too many balloons reach the finish line, you will run out of lives. When it is game over, hopefully you wont curse at your boss.
Enjoy.
