Dammit Game of the Week: Ultimate Flash Sonic
So… I’d like to blame my lack of posting a Dammit game last week on a hangover from excessive partying, but let’s face it, I’m a nerd and everyone knows nerds don’t party. Instead, I must admit that I am lazy (BIG SURPRISE). But to make up for my lack of motivation, the next 4 weeks of Dammit games will be retros. These are the games that we all loved as kids and still play today, especially when our Xbox 360 red rings. Retro games might be even more useful when someone throws a Wiimote through your brand new HDTV and you’re stuck with your old 20 inch piece of crap.
This week’s game is Ultimate Flash Sonic by Dennis-Gid. I like to remember the spiky blue hedgehog the way his was in his 2-D glory days, before some retard thought that it would be a great idea to add a third dimension. This little flash game delivers the 2-D Sonic experience that I have so long missed. The game is based on the Sonic Advance game that appeared on, you guessed it, the Game Boy Advance. If you’ve played any of the multiple Sonic Advance games, you will be more than familiar with the style, music, and enemies.
When starting the game you can choose from 4 main characters, with two more that are unlockable after beating the game with all 4 characters. There aren’t many worlds, only two (A green one and a snowy one), with 3 levels each. So the game is short, but you can play it with six characters. Each character has a special ability, like Tails being able to fly for a short time, so it does add to the game somewhat. The controls are very simple left and right arrows to move left or right, space to jump, and down and space to do the spin dash. It was one of the top flash games of the year in 2004 and still is fun today. Enjoy!
