Release of the Week: Skate 2
For years Tony Hawk had a monopoly on skate boarding video games. Sequel after sequel was pumped out in true sports game fashion! There are now nine different Tony Hawk games that fans have gobbled up. Fortunately, last year gave us the first true competitor to the Hawk monster, Skate. Developed by EA Black box, the game not only stood up against Tony Hawk’s Proving Grounds, but outsold it by a ratio of 2 to 1!
Skate 2, which releases tomorrow, hopes to build on the success of the original. Boasting nearly twice the number of tricks as the original. As for the “flick it” control system, it may be too difficult for the casual gamer to master, but then the game isn’t being released on the Wii anyway. The game also contains new features, such as the new ability to get off your skateboard or even create a female character! The “Skate it” story mode sounds gripping as well. A large earthquake has destroyed the city which has been rebuilt. As a result of the reconstruction, the city now has increased security protecting it from you pesky skater kids.
Deep rooted sarcasim aside, Skate 2 looks to be the first big release of 2009. If you are into skating games, extreme sports games or anoying rent-a-cops, this game is a must buy. For the rest of us who have beaten our holiday gifts and are itching for a fix, this will help feed your addiction.
