Release of the Week: F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

fearRecent years have shown an evolution within the horror genre.  Back in the old days, horror games such as Resident Evil relied on quirky camera angles and slightly quirky game mechanics to scare the pants off of any gamers brave enough to attempt them.  As of late, however, more and more games are blending the shooter and horror genres to create something absolutely terrifying.  Not relying on goofy third person cameras or awkward controls, games like Bioshock have used the first person shooter style to create environments and fast paced action that is truly horrifying.

The latest survival horror game created in this style is Monolith’s much punctuated “F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin”.  Once again we can spend some quality time with Alma as the little girl scares the living daylights out of us for several hours.  The game looks fast paced and down right creepy.  Bright colors are effectively used within the usual browns and blacks to create an unsettling game world.  As an added bonus, the AI is as smart as ever, finding new ways to come after you every time you play.

Being released Tuesday on the PC, PS3 and XBox 360, F.E.A.R. 2 is guaranteed to give you more then its fair share of goose bumps.  Monolith has also focused a lot more on the multiplayer portion of the game this time around, so you will stick with the game even after Alma is gone.  I would just make sure to buy some extra pairs of underwear when you pick this game up.
