Release of the Week: Killzone 2

This week’s biggest release is a no brainer.  Killzone 2 is not only the biggest release this week, it is easily the biggest game to be released so far this year.  Ever since Sony released that slightly infamous and highly ambitious trailer back in 2005, people have been pouring over every screen shot, attempting to see whether or not the game stacks up to its promise.  I would say that if it even gets close, the game will be one of the most beautiful ever rendered.

killzone2previewThe sequel to the PS2 hit is looking even more killtastic!  From the very start, you are dropped into a horde of Helghast, left battling for your very survival.  Well, fighting for Sev’s survival, but I doubt you will really care much about Sev.  He appears to be another video game hero that doesn’t like to talk, even while all of his buddies order him around and try and make you care about the war effort.  Oh well, at least you get to shoot stuff!

Speaking of mindless killing, Guerrilla has put a lot of work into Killzone 2’s multiplayer.  Up to 32-players will be able to battle it out, featuring 7 different classes to help customize your gaming experience.  The game modes aren’t really anything special, but the servers can change game types without exiting to the lobby.  Another feature I think will be great is that the maps aren’t littered with ammo crates.  Instead, you must pry ammo from your enemy’s cold, dead fingers.

Most games I preview are a little iffy, in fact, with some I would recomend that gamers wait a bit to see the public’s reaction to the game.  However, Killzone 2 is one of those games that you can pre-order without concern.  If you are a fan of shooters that has a pulse and a PlayStation 3, you will love this game.  This Friday, PS3 owners are in for a treat!
