Unfortunately most of people I know seem to flock to them, which makes me seem like the A-hole, but I feel your pain man. Not saying there isn't a lot of talent and effort put into them, but it definitely reflects an entirely different way of thinking that to me seems, as you described it, a bad acid trip. In my humble opinion, the whole point of a ROLE PLAYING GAME is to put you into the shoes of another character. In order to do this effectively you need to be able to connect in some way with the main PC. Hence the reason most are nameless or have some sort of universal problem. I have a hard time 'connecting' to an ambiguously gay he/she with tall spikey randomly colored hair who is half epic something and part whatever. Not sure how other people do it either, but sales show that plenty of them are confused enough to relate in someway. Again, maybe I'm the A-hole, but I just can't get into a character whom I can't even tell the gender of after 4 hours of story scenes. Bollocks! Kudos!
