A Casual Gamer’s Top 5 Games for ‘09
Gamers, let’s be honest. I don’t have nearly as much time to turn on my gaming system as some who contribute to this site. For that reason I normally don’t have games that I can review, at least not ones that most people have read numerous reviews for already. Far Cry 2 was a break into the market for me, even if timing was spread way out between my first impression and my review. However, there are other games this year, that I would like to add to my queue, with Grundy the Mans approval of course, for reviewing on Thoughts of a Random Gamer. So here is a list of releases that any casual gamer can possibly dig into, mostly consisting of Xbox 360 games.
5. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Alright, admit it… who is not a fan of X-Men that loves to play video games? Who is not super stoked about the movie being released in 2009 by the same name? While seeing only one trailer for the movie, it looks super amazing. If the game, manages to live up to the graphics like I have seen, it will surely be amazing. The title utilizes Unreal Engine 3 and will be similar to games like God of War. With blades of super alloy in your hands, expect to inflict lots of damage, and see lots of gore. SWEET!!
Due out in May
4. Halo 3: ODST
Halo 3:ODST or is it Halo 3: Recon? It appears this game will hit shelves as ODST. This is a prequel for Halo 3 and follows a different perspective in the expansive Halo universe. The story takes place in Kenya, and occurs without any appearance of Master Chief. You will be placed in the shoes of a Shock Trooper, trying to determine what happened to some of your teammates. To sweeten the pot, 24 multiplayer maps will be included, many from Halo 3. Expect some great multiplayer capability, as Halo has been known to provide year after year.
Due out this fall.
3. Halo Wars
How many times have we talked about this one on our site? Yea, it’s going to be that great. Here at Thoughts are all stoked about the game. The demo was sweet, and once we get a hold of the game, the it is destined to be better than just sweet. Whereas ODST is set between Halo 2 and Halo 3, Halo Wars is set before Halo 1. It plays an awful lot like Warcraft of old or Starcraft (Is the new one coming this year?) You get to choose between Covenant and the UNSC for utter domination. Interesting fact, the soundtrack was recorded in Prague, Czech Republic.
Due out Today!
2. Resident Evil 5

Granted I have never really gotten into any of these games in the past, but… I demoed this one and was stunned by the graphics. This is similar to when you see a beautiful woman and you are drawn by the need to get to know her more. The demo seemed relatively short, or at least the amount of time I was able to stay alive was short! You can expect the game to offer some online co-op opportunities for mission play. Also, be ready for a wider array of weaponry and smarter enemies. And for the last time, please don’t think this is a game full of racial discrimination. The plot is set in Africa, and you just need to know more about the story while you play.
Due out March 13
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Another call of Duty? Really? Oh wait, it doesn’t take place in World War II, so everyone can rejoice! Not a whole lot of info has come up about this one yet except that it is a sequel to Call of Duty 4, which was arguably one of my favorite games on the Xbox 360. Look for more details in the future, not to mention hopefully a release time in ‘09
Tentatively due out in the fall
That wraps up this list Gamers. Any others we should be considering for reviews?
