Release of the Week: GTA: China Town Wars
It isn’t very often that a game for a portable system becomes the release of the week. Don’t get me wrong, Pokemon was the real deal back in the day, but that pales in comparison to this week’s release. It’s just that games for the portable systems are made for the people riding in the back of the car, not driving it.
So why focus on a DS game when I could be playing something in 1080p? Of course, this is no ordinary handheld game! This is Grand Theft Auto making its debut on a Nintendo system. Returning to its birds-eye-view roots, GTA: China Town Wars isn’t the third person shooter seen on the PSP. Don’t think that the new cartoony look makes this a child’s game, however. This is still very much an adult game. Even if hot wiring a car with a stylus may make you feel silly, it is an interesting game mechanic.
Being the first Grand Theft Auto game where the cover art displays the actual in game graphics, some hardcore fans of the series may be turned off. Of course, most hardcore fans of the series probably don’t have a DS anyway. I recommend checking the game out, even if you have to steal a DS from your 8 year old child in order to play it. If it just isn’t your style you can always check out Resistance: Retribution being released over on the PSP. Both games come on Tuesday to a hand held console near you!
