Release of the Week: Resident Evil 5
Are you sick of fighting zombies in dark alleys, creepy dungeons, or infested space ships? Then pack your bags and don’t forget the sunscreen! Capcom’s hit survival horror series, Resident Evil, is setting its sights on sunny Africa! Finally, a chance to kill zombies out in the fresh air!
Even in daylight, Resident Evil 5 looks to be a terrifying game. The light lets you clearly see the horrid creatures coming after you. As this is the first iteration of Resident Evil on the new consoles, the beasts look more terrifying then ever. Co-op play allows you to hunt zombies with a buddy, so at least you will have someone else laughing at you when you crap your pants.
Even in Africa, this is still very much a Resident Evil game. Chris Redfield is back and he is up against his usual horde of zombies. Unfortunately, You still control him with the awkward tank controls that don’t allow for complex actions such as running and shooting at the same time. Well, we wouldn’t want things to be too easy. After all, the longer it takes you to kill the zombies, the longer you can spend observing just how shiny and polished they look in HD.
There hasn’t been a new Resident Evil game released since 2005. Well, other then that thing on the Wii… but that doesn’t count. Anyway, there is a lot of competition in the Survival horror genre nowadays. Friday, we will see if Resident Evil can take back its crown as the king of horror games.
